Because I Could Not Stop for Death by Emily Dickinson
Because I could not stop for Death –
He kindly stopped for me –
The Carriage held but just Ourselves –
And Immortality.
We slowly drove – He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility –
We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recess – in the Ring –
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain –
We passed the Setting Sun –
Or rather – He passed us –
The Dews drew quivering and chill –
For only Gossamer, my Gown –
My Tippet – only Tulle –
We paused before a House that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground –
The Roof was scarcely visible –
The Cornice – in the Ground –
Since then – 'tis Centuries – and yet

III. My Reaction
A. Reaction Point - Figurative language (比喩的な言葉)
For example, “stop for me” and “stop for Death” are same mean. “stop for me” means ‘It stops to pick me up’. For each other, “stop for Death” means ‘I stop activity for death’. In other words, The meaning that expression called same “stop for” has using a gap. To put it shortly, She tries a small joke.
B. Reaction Point - Rhyme(韻)
For example, “For me” and “Immortality” are used same sound. But, these two of a long sound and the short soud is different. This is incomplete rhyming. Because, She avoided that She did unwilling expression to go through right rhyme.
C. My General Opinion
I was surprised that there was not a title first when I looked. And, There is much used of the - (dash). Through his ploblem , I knew Emily Dickinson sentence for the first time. Her poetry is very interesting. Therefore, I want to read her poetry.
